In the past I have made drawings from photos of paintings, practiced drawing from sculpture and painted on photos.
Vincent HomageBack in 1990 when I took a photography class I had painted on bad photos I had taken. In more recent times I have used photos or digital prints from photos as a base for mixed media drawings. I think of mixed media on paper as drawing even though I use an assortment of drawing and paint media including watercolor and acrylic.
A long time ago my Mom gave me a faded print on canvas of Vincent Sunflowers that she had found at a thrift shop. Sometime in 2011 I decided to brighten it up.
Then I took pages from an old art book that had been damaged and worked on some of the pages.
A quote from Constable that talked about the work of a painter being more like that of a scientist than a poet.
Braque's stuff is way more interesting than that other guy's.
And the Daumier sketch of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza is one of my favorites.
I took two reproductions of Japanese prints and merged them.
The Klee was a magazine clipping painted over with acrylic.
The old art book had pages with images grouped as genres,
for example, still life.
All of the reproductions are completely drawn and painted over.
